Commercial printer Printgroup Cuijk is using its new PlateRite 4100 with great success to produce Toray waterless thermal plates for its KBA digital colour press; the KBA Genius 52, and Agfa thermal plates for their KBA B2.

"RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is being driven by the retail and wholesale supply chain. Why? Largely because of Walmart's mandate that its top 100 suppliers must be RFID-complaint by January 2005. Walmart needs to streamline its supply chain through RFID. The downstream supplier doesn't necessarily have the IT resources to implement the RFID mandate, so there is a significant role for integrators to play."

Ultima 32000 boosts production by 30% at ESAG
The first PlateRite Ultima 32000 in Portugal, driven by Trueflow Screen's JDF-enabled PDF workflow, has started production at ESAG. This established, family-owned, company has chosen Screen's flag ship VLF system to boost production capacity and better service its print and publishing customers. The PlateRite Ultima will handle high-volume production of multi-format B2, B1 and larger plates.
KOMORI shows off Screen in UK and France
Brian Filler and Martin RickardsKomori UK and France have both picked Screen B1 CTP systems to produce plates for all their demonstrations at their national showrooms in Leeds and OrlČans. A Screen PlateRite 8800, together with a new ten-colour Lithrone 1028P perfector press has gone into Komori UK, and has been integrated with MIS systems, to create a totally CIP3/4 working environment. Komori France has taken a PlateRite 8100 with Trueflow, to support their two presses.
Spotlight: Truepress 344 under the microscope
ecclesIn his in-depth evaluation of the Truepress, Simon Eccles says that "this is an offset litho colour press in a box that's no harder to use than a high-end colour copier", and analyses the features and functionality of this new design, including automation, plate imaging, powerful workflow and user-friendly interface. He emphasises its low costs and plate changeover speed as winning factors, noting that "job changeovers take just five minutes" which are "much faster than its rivals, who are generally quoted as around 12 to 15 minutes".
Upgrade: Smarter image processing software
CezanneScreen has released the latest version of its ColorGenius EX image processing software for its popular Screen Cezanne (FT-S5500) flatbed scanner. ColorGenius EX v2.05 provides Mac OS X 10.3 compatibility and enables the extensive installed base of Cezanne users to upgrade to the latest operating system for the G5 Macintosh platform currently shipping from Apple.
FIRST: PlateRite 8600 sales in Eastern Europe & Russia
cathedralPrinters Billboard Print Ltd (Bulgaria), AKD (Croatia) and Polygraph Service, (Stavropol, Southern Russia) have all installed Screen's fully-automated PlateRite 8600 B1 CTP solution for better quality, more cost-effective automated plate production and consequently have seen better printing results. Supplied by MAN Roland Bulgaria, MAN Roland Croatia and HGS Center respectively, all three printers can now achieve, with Screen's 8-page platesetter, both B1 and B2 plate imaging at 20 plates per hour productivity at 2400 dpi and a greater level of accuracy, saving both time and money.
